Interreg Programme

The programme

Interreg is a series of European Union (EU) funding programmes that support cross-border, regional and community cooperation. By bringing together organisations from across Europe and beyond, Interreg tackles common challenges and creates lasting links. The programmes support projects that address common challenges and propose sustainable solutions to reduce regional inequalities, while promoting economic, social and environmental development across Europe.

For the period 2021-2027, its priorities focus on key issues such as tackling climate change, advancing digital transformation and promoting social inclusion.

With 86 programmesInterreg covers the whole of Europe and beyond, playing a key role in promoting regional development and cohesion, as well as reducing economic disparities.

The budget for the period 2021-2027 is €8 billion. Each selected project receives financial support from Interreg (on average €1.7 million), but organisations must contribute within the overall project budget. The co-financing rate varies according to the programme, but never exceeds 80% of the total project cost.
